Ranking System

Please refer below for our ranking system. There are three categories: Kihon (Basics), Kata, and Kumite (Sparring). According to testing rank, different techniques and combinations are required to obtain higher rank belt. Please see the descriptions as a simple guidline. Note that techniques and combinations are subjects to be changed accordingly.

Kihon (Basics): Learning Gedan Barai (Down Block), Age Uke (Rising Block), Shuto Uke (Knife Hand Block), Soto Uke (Outside Forearm Block), Oi Zuki (Step in Punch), Mae Geri (Front Kick), Zenkutsu Dachi (Front Stance), Koukutsu Dachi (Back Stance), Kiba Dachi (Horse Riding Stance) Kata: Learning Heian Shodan Kumite (Sparring): Learning Sanbon or Gohon Kumite (Three or Five Step Sparring)

Kihon Requirement: addition to previous Kyu, Yoko Enpi (Side Elbow), Uraken (Backfist Strike) Kata Requirement: Tekki Shodan (3rd Kyu), One of four intermediate Katas; Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, and Jion (2nd and 1st Kyu) Kumite Requirement: Ippon Kumite (3rd Kyu); Jiyu Ippon Kumite (2nd and 1st Kyu)

Kihon Requirement: All the Kyu techiniques Kata Requirement: All the Kyu Katas, and Four Intermediate Katas: Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, and Jion Above Shodan, time to start learning other Katas (total 26) Kumite: Jiyu Ippon Kumite (Shodan), Jiyu Kumite (Free Sparring for above Shodan), or Jikobouei (Self-defense)
